Our Roots
Pet Greens was founded on the remarkable healing properties of wheatgrass – and inspired by pets and the people who love them.
Catherine, a SoCal native, has always valued healthy, natural foods and initially conceived a plan to grow wheatgrass to supply the juice trade. Her New Zealander brother-in-law, Marty, brought his innovative nature and broad-spectrum expertise to the enterprise and built an organic growing operation on the family farm in San Marcos, California.
Both being animal lovers, they soon realized there was a need for healthy greens in pets’ lives as well. Recognizing the fact that many pets spend most of their lives indoors, they made it their mission to satisfy an animal’s instinctive craving for fresh, live greens while also providing an essential, life-enriching connection with nature.
Wheatgrass was the perfect answer: the tender, juicy blades are packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals while also supplying gentle natural fiber for optimal digestive health. In 1996 they shifted their focus exclusively to the pet industry, and the Pet Greens brand was born.
Pet Greens organic wheatgrass was so well-received that they expanded their line of products to include live catnip, cat grass self-grow kits, and treats for cats and dogs using a proprietary recipe infused with healthy greens. This innovative solution of bringing the outdoors in gives pets a full and happy life – so they can truly thrive inside!

Pet Greens supports a number of adoption, rescue, TNR and shelter organizations nationwide as part of our commitment to helping all animals lead happier, healthier lives.
We have a soft spot for small organizations with big hearts, who often don’t get the assistance they need or the recognition they deserve. Their pure devotion to animals inspires us – they’re heroes, and we are dedicated to helping them achieve the goal of improving the lives of all companion animals.
