Which House Would Your Cat Be Sorted Into?

Blog by Anita Driessen

Imagine trying to hold a sorting ceremony for cats. The hat would be knocked off the table, someone would fall asleep before their name was called, and a hissing match would break out over who got the best seat. And the shedding. So much shedding. My eyes are watering just thinking about it.

But if cats were sorted into houses according to personality, where would yours belong? Among the sensitive Shy Babies, the commanding Royals, the devoted Round Loungers—or the endlessly inquisitive Curious Detectives?

No two cats are exactly alike, of course, but most share a few wonderfully familiar traits. Let the sorting begin!

The Shy Babies

Motto: “I’ll come out when I’m ready.”

The Shy Baby is watching you. Probably from behind the sofa, beneath the bed or around the edge of a doorway.

Sensitive and softhearted, this cat likes to take in the situation before joining it. New people, unfamiliar noises and sudden changes may send them searching for a safe retreat—but that doesn’t mean they aren’t curious. They simply prefer to investigate from a sensible distance.

Give a Shy Baby time, patience and a place where they feel secure, and you’ll earn something very special: their trust. Once they choose you, expect quiet companionship, gentle head bumps and a devoted little shadow who may never be the life of the party—but will always be close by.

Thrives with:

  • Quiet hiding places
  • Predictable routines
  • Slow introductions
  • Gentle play and affection

The Royals

Motto: “This kingdom is (better be) running exactly as I intended.”

Graceful. Confident. Completely convinced they’re in charge.

The Royal doesn’t ask for attention—they simply expect it. The best chair? Already claimed. The warmest window? Reserved. Dinner? It should have been served five minutes ago.

Despite their regal ways, every Royal has a soft side. They’ll reward loyal subjects with slow blinks, gentle purrs and the occasional kitty head butt—when the mood strikes. But if the service slips?

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!
Just kidding. Probably.

Thrives with:

  • Window perches
  • Peaceful surroundings
  • Daily routines
  • The very best of everything

The Round Loungers

Motto: “I’ll get to it… eventually.”

Professional napper. Sunbeam collector. Lap warmer extraordinaire.

The Round Lounger believes life should be enjoyed one cozy moment at a time. Their schedule revolves around finding the perfect sleeping spot, accepting affection—on their terms—and arriving in the kitchen the instant they hear the treat bag. For a few glorious seconds, your Round Lounger becomes an Olympic sprinter.

Such athletic effort will, of course, require another nap.

Thrives with:

  • Cozy resting places
  • Gentle play sessions
  • Sunny windows
  • Occasional bursts of excitement

The Curious Detectives

Motto: “Everything requires investigation.”

You know this cat well. They’re halfway up the bookshelf before you’ve finished bringing in the groceries. Every cardboard box is an invitation to snoop. Every cupboard deserves inspection. Every mysterious sound demands an immediate investigation. To the Curious Detective, it can mean only one thing:

“The game is afoot!”

They’re happiest when there’s something new to explore. Whether they’re stalking a feather wand, chirping at birds from the window or attempting to solve the Case of the Closed Bathroom Door—with paws reaching underneath to search for clues—they’re always ready for their next assignment.

Thrives with:

  • Interactive play
  • Climbing opportunities
  • Puzzle toys
  • New sights and scents

So…Which House Does Your Cat Belong To?

Maybe your cat is a sweet Shy Baby whose trust had to be earned.

Perhaps you share your home with a Royal who graciously allows you to live in their kingdom.

Maybe they’re a Round Lounger, happiest curled up in a sunny patch on the floor—or a Curious Detective who considers every nook and cranny a new mystery.

Whatever their personality, every cat deserves opportunities to play, explore, relax and express the natural instincts that make them wonderfully, uniquely feline.

Match Their Personality

Every archetype has its own idea of a very good day:

  • The Shy Baby: Grow-Your-Own Cat Grass
Good things grow slowly. A gentle patch of fresh grass can grow beside their favorite safe spot, ready whenever they are.
  • The Royal: Pet Greens Treats
Wholesome ingredients with no unnecessary fillers—because the Royal accepts only the best.
  • The Round Lounger: Catnip
Just the thing to inspire a stretch, a pounce and a brief interruption to their regularly scheduled nap.
  • The Curious Detective: Fresh Cat Grass
A safe, natural discovery for cats who need to inspect, sniff and taste everything.
